What is CBD Yoga?
CBD is arguably one of the most talked-about wellness products of 2019. It has been hailed a miracle worker for a long list of health problems, including stress and anxiety. So, what is CBD and how can you best incorporate it into your self-care routine and benefit the body and mind?
CBD is short for cannabidiol – the non-psychoactive, non-addictive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Unlike its cousin, THC, it is not hallucinogenic, therefore won’t provide you with a ‘high’ but recent study suggest CBD may boast many health benefits. Although CBD comes from the cannabis plant, it doesn’t need to be smoked to feel the benefits. Instead, there are a range of different ways to take CBD, each method delivers CBD to your body in a different way. Not only can CBD be vaped, which is one of the most effective ways to have CBD, it can be applied topically using creams and lotions, ingested orally with gummy bears and capsules.
Many yoga enthusiasts claim it to be one of the best tools for self-care, even just ten to fifteen minutes of daily practice can be extremely valuable on a busy day. CBD yoga, also known as ‘Green Yoga’, is a growing trend amongst yogis. It has many advantages over traditional yoga, studies show it can improve focus during the practice, calm the mind and relieve muscular pain.
Research also shows that it can prolong the positive feeling felt when participating in yoga. When we feel good, we naturally produce and release a neurotransmitter called Anandamide. In Sanskrit, ‘Ananda’ means ‘bliss’, which is why it is named the ‘bliss molecule’. However, like all neurotransmitters, anandamide is fragile, and the body breaks it down quickly. CBD suppresses the enzyme that breaks down Anandamide, thus creating longer-lasting effects from the naturally occurring Anandamide in our system. The feeling of bliss can be enhanced by incorporating CBD into yoga.
It is important to remember, that CBD nor yoga can ‘cure’ stress and anxiety, but consistency can help benefit your state of mind. Try implementing it into your self-care routine and discover how your wellbeing might change!
