The Best Vape Kits To Make Your E-Liquid Last Longer After The Vape Tax

Quick Answer

Devices that operate at a low wattage from factory settings, or that have variable wattage settings, are best for preservation of e-liquid. Higher resistance coils (1.0ohm+) work best towards this benefit, using less e-liquid over time compared to sub-ohm coils.

This is because the above hardware operates at lower temperatures, which vapourises less e-liquid with each puff.

With the vape tax coming into effect, you may want to, quite understandably, preserve your e-liquid. Luckily, there are ways to do so, though this will be dependent on your vape kit and its functions.

In this blog we'll cover what vape kits, coils and pods are best for saving money after the vape tax.

Use Devices With Low Wattage Output

The most simplistic approach to using less e-liquid is choosing a device with a low maximum wattage output. Lower-wattage devices also tend to be less expensive, meaning even if you're using it occasionally to offset your e-liquid usage, you won't be paying a premium to do so. The Plexus Go by Innokin is a great example as such, with a maximum output of 25W and flexibility with a range of different coils. Paired with a higher-ohm coil (0.8ohm), this will ensure your e-liquid lasts longer, though even if using nic salts, you can get away with an RDTL sub-ohm coil without using too high a wattage.

Similarly, the EDGE GO+ has a lower wattage output, with the added flexibility of pre-filled and refillable pods available. Being designed by EDGE, it works ideally with any and all EDGE e-liquids, and overall is an accessible kit for vapers at all levels of experience.

Use Variable Wattage Where Possible

Most modern vape kits have automatic wattage setting, which means if you choose a higher reistance coil (1.0ohm etc) you will already be using a lower power output which can help opreserve e-liquid for longer.

If your device has variable wattage, however, you can manually adjust the wattage yourself. This gives you even greater control over your e-liquid consumption. Choosing a lower wattage setting will use less e-liquid over time, which will make a notable difference in the long term if you want your pre-tax e-liquid stockpile to last as long as possible.

If using high-VG e-liquid, it may be more difficult to reduce your e-liquid consumption, as these e-liquids need a much higher wattage and a low-ohm coil to work properly.

In this instance, we'd suggest considering nic salts or freebase e-liquid instead of HVG, but at a push you could experiment with a 0.6 or 0.8ohm coil option using slightly higher wattage than you would if vaping 50-50 e-liquid.

Use Pods/Coils With Higher Resistance

Overall, the most effective way of using less e-liquid is by using higher-ohm coils. These higher-ohm coils require less heat to work properly and thus evaporate e-liquids more slowly. Combine this effort with using lower wattage or power modes, and you'll see a notable difference in how fast you're using up e-liquid.

As a general rule of thumb:

  • 1.0ohm+ coils/pods will consume increasingly less e-liquid the higher the ohm rating goes.
  • 0.8ohm coils/pods and below will use increasingly more e-liquid the lower the ohm rating goes.

Try Reducing Your Vaping Frequency

Although entirely dependent on your own needs, cutting down on your vaping frequency is arguably the most effective way of saving e-liquid altogether. While it isn't the most appealing option, it is effective, and there are ways to cut down on frequency without major withdrawals.

Try Nic Salts

While you may be more familiar with freebase nicotine like the EDGE Core range, nic salts can offer a more satisfying and faster-acting hit. Due to the way nic salts enter the bloodstream, hits can act more potent and faster than freebase nicotine. This will mean you'll need to top up less, and with fewer top-ups means longer-lasting e-liquid.

Try Nicotine Pouches

Unlike vaping products, nicotine pouches remain unaffected by the vape tax. This means that while vaping products are set to increase in price, pouches will remain the same price.

You don't even need to make a complete switch to pouches; they can help balance the extra cost of vaping, or offset your e-liquid consumption rate by swapping out some of your vape breaks for a pouch.

Nicotine pouches are also available in a range of strengths, catering to light, heavy and smokers anywhere between.

Top Tips For Preserving Pre-Tax E-Liquid Summarised:

  • Use a device with low maximum wattage.
  • Use variable wattage settings if your device allows it.
  • Switch to higher-ohm pods, ideally 1.0ohms+.
  • Use e-liquids that will last longer over time, such as nic salts.
  • Consider nic pouches to offset your nicotine consumption.
