Getting Set Up: How To Use Xros Vape Pods
Right out of the box, the Xros 5 Mini is pre-equipped with a 0.6ohm resistance coil. If this isn't to your liking, or depending on your chosen vape juice, you can switch pods out in one swift motion, simply pull the included 0.6ohm pod from the device and add your newly chosen pod in its place.
The included 0.6ohm pod works best with nic salt e-liquids, which is where the Xros range, and especially the Xros 5 Mini, can shine. The patented COREX technology enhances nic salt flavours to the max. This is all automatically configured by the coil, meaning all you can use it straight out of the box, or simply exchange it for another coil with a simple click.
Pods are easily accessible to fill, with a simple top-fill design. To do so, follow these basic instructions:
- Remove the pod from your Xros Mini battery (if pre-installed) and remove the protective film from the contact points
- Clip back the mouthpiece to one side to unclip it from the top of the pod, exposing the filling valve
- Pop the top of your e-liquid bottle into the filling valve
- Gently squeeze the bottle to fill the Xros pod, taking care not to overfill
- Put the mouthpiece back in place, re-covering the valve
- Put the pod back into your battery, allow it to absorb for a minute or two. Once allowed to steep, you may vape
If you are setting up the Xros 5 Mini for the first time out of the box, you may see a warning stating "check atomiser". When inserting the new pod, ensure you have removed the protective tabs covering the contact points on the base of the pod.
Ohms & Watts: Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini Pod Options Explained
The Xros 5 Mini works with MTL and RDTL inhale styles, meaning you can pair it with both nic salts and freebase e-liquids.
A benefit of the Xros 5 Mini is that power settings are set automatically depending on the pod you're using - meaning there's no room for error in burning out coils prematurely.
With three pod potions to choose from with different ohm ratings for the built-in coils, below I will explain my experience with each so you can make an informed choice:
0.6ohm Xros Pod
The device arrives with a 0.6 Xros Pod already implemented, meaning if you use it straight from the device, you'll be using one of these pods. Vaporesso include this as the starting pod for good reason, particularly due to the tailoring towards Restricted Direct To Lung vaping style. 0.6 ohms will provide the most flavour, whilst still being accessible to beginner vapers with barely any throat hit with nic salts.
0.8ohm Xros Pod
Similarly, 0.8ohm pods are well-suited towards Restricted Direct To Lung (RDTL) vaping. You can use any 50-50 e-liquids with this coil, but nic salts have proven to be the best applicable for a satisfying RDTL vape experience. While still punchy and flavourful, this coil option isn't quite as bold as the 0.6ohm variant. Nonetheless, you'll be using less power and may prefer a slightly more subtle hit.
If you prefer freebase nicotine over nic salts, this will be a good starting point. This pod will work fine with either nic salts or freebase, as it is tailored for Mouth To Lung (MTL) vaping. We suggest using this coil option if you are out and about a lot, as it will provide more battery whilst still enabling a flavourful punch - though more muted when compared to sub-ohm nic salt vaping. In terms of practicality over longer-term trips, or if you prefer freebase over nic salts, 1.0ohm is a good start.
1.2ohm Xros Pod
Moving away from nic salts, 1.2ohm is the standard for 50/50 freebase e-liquid. We'd suggest this as the standard for freebase users, as this is usually the most common measure. Particularly if you're moving away from smoking cigarettes, it will produce a familiar throat hit, which many users find preferable when vaping.
Tailoring Your Vaping Experience: The Xros 5 Mini Settings
Fortunately for newer vapers, the Xros 5 Mini will automatically configure itself based on which pod you choose to insert into it. This means that, as far as customisation goes, you only need to choose a pod and adjust your airflow. Adjusting airflow is as simple as using the valve on the side of the device, which moves up and down to loosen and tighten airflow, respectively.
Choosing a pod will simply depend on what e-liquid you're using and how strong of a hit you would like. That being said, if you're unsure, the device is pre-equipped with a pod straight out of the box.
Although there is the option between freebase and nic salts, the Xros 5 Mini, and its COREX tech, just like the predecessors in the Xros range were designed to work in harmony with nic salts. If you've used disposable vapes in the past, or were even a disposables only user, you'll find this device is very similar in being a simplistic layout, with high emphasis on flavour.
Usability: Xros 5 Mini Battery Life & Charging
Despite its small size, the Xros 5 Mini is equipped with a 1,500 mAh battery - around the same, if not more capacity than many larger kits. Our vaping experts tested battery life using different pods and ohm settings, and found even at 0.6ohms that a full charge will last over a day.
Battery charge is consistently clear as day, through an LED indication on the back of the device. In increments of 25, 4 LEDS will indicate 100-75% battery level, 3 for 75-50%, 2 for 50-25% and 1 LED light will signal that the battery is below 25%, and due for a recharge. Although not an exact number, this measure communicates very simply and efficiently where the battery is.
Depending on what pod you use, your battery will drain faster. There are no manually input or changeable power settings. Despite this, we had no trouble with battery shortcomings at any setting. The Xros 5 Mini was clearly designed to work with low resistance coils and manages this without draining battery levels.
The Xros 5 Mini has 2A rapid charging via USB-C, although not quite at the same standard as the Xros 5, which has 3A fast charging, it should be fully charged between 30-45 minutes. Granted the large battery capacity for its size, this is much better than most.
Vape Juice Options: Which E-Liquid Works Best With The Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini Vape Kit?
Throughout testing, we found that the Xros 5 Mini works well with 50-50 freebase e-liquids across a range of nicotine strengths. The coils' mesh design working alongside the newly implemented COREX 3.0's flavour boosting tech works a treat to enhance the less intense flavour concentrates used in typical freebase vape juice like our EDGE Core range.
Nonetheless, just like the predecessors in the Xros range, the Xros 5 Mini truly shines when working with nic salt vape juice.
