Vaping In Germany: Your Comprehensive Guide
Germany, a major European power known for its strong economy and rich history, presents a unique destination for vapers. Understanding the regulatory status of vaping in Germany is crucial before you travel. This guide provides a full understanding of everything you need to know about vaping before your trip.
Is Vaping In Germany Legal?
Yes, vaping is legal in Germany, with restrictions on where you can vape and what you can buy.
Vaping and the use of e-cigarettes have seen a steady rise among adults in Germany. With 1.5 million vapers and a smoking prevalence of 2.1% of the adult population, vaping is fairly advocated. Germany hosts the annual Hall of Vape convention, highlighting its market in Germany.
Germany has similar legalities surrounding where you can vape as other member states of the EU. Like vaping in Italy, Germany has a levy tax on e-liquids, which we’ll discuss later. The legal age in Germany to purchase and use e-cigarettes is 18 years or older. E-cigarette use is regulated.
Can I Bring Disposable Vapes To Germany?
Although disposables are currently legal and available, there have been announcements as of November 2025 that a disposable ban is in the making.
As the sale of disposable vapes is prohibited in the UK, airports may still discard disposable devices, even if exporting them is not inherently illegal. Other vaping products are easily accessible across Germany. Disposable vapes are currently widely available to buy, but this is prone to changing.
Calls have been made to ban them throughout the EU to ban them, the main reason stated being the environmental impact that single-use vapes pose. We would be very surprised if the European Union do not follow the UK's lead by issuing a ban.

Can You Vape At German Airports?
Vaping inside terminal buildings is strictly prohibited, but some airports have designated smoking and vaping areas.
Germany does not permit vaping in enclosed public buildings, which include airport terminals. However, to accommodate travellers, certain key airports like Frankfurt and Berlin have thoughtfully installed designated areas.
Frankfurt Airport, for instance, boasts some of the most accommodating indoor and enclosed smoking and vaping areas in Europe, conveniently located within the terminal buildings. You'll find at least half a dozen of these spaces, ensuring that vapers and smokers have easy access. Additionally, Frankfurt Airport offers an open-air smoking/vaping area on its roof deck, providing a more airy and less confined environment for those who prefer it.
Both Berlin airports also feature indoor lounges where vaping is permitted. However, it's important to note that these lounges are shared with smokers, which might not be ideal for everyone, particularly those who have recently quit cigarette smoking and wish to avoid the lingering scent of tobacco.
These designated areas allow vapers to use e-cigarettes without leaving the secure terminal building areas, which is especially convenient during layovers or before boarding flights. It's always recommended to check your surroundings for specific signage and to be mindful of fellow travellers' preferences.
Vape Laws in Germany
Germany follows the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), with a tax on 10ml bottles.
Germany, as an EU member states, adheres to the TPD, which includes:
- E-liquids cannot exceed 20mg nicotine strength.
- E-liquids containing nicotine must be sold in 10ml bottles or less.
- Refillable tanks and disposable devices cannot exceed 2ml capacity.
- Packaging must warn about nicotine content.
In 2022, Germany imposed a tax on nicotine-containing e-liquids and nicotine shots. The tax increased from 16 cents in 2022 to 20 cents in 2024, and will reach 30 cents in 2026. This significantly impacts e-liquid prices.
To give you an idea of the costs, because of the tax increases, the price of a standard 10ml bottle of e-liquid has increased. In 2024, the average cost of a 10 ml bottle was around 10.75 euros. In 2025, due to the further tax increases, the price is now around 11.50 euros.
It is also estimated that by 2026, due to the continued tax increases, that the average price of a 10ml bottle of e-liquid will be above 12 euros. It is important to remember that these are average prices, and that prices can vary depending on the brand and where the product is purchased.

Are There Any Vape Shops in Germany?
Germany has many vape shops and other retailers.
VapStore and other retailers offer a wide range of vape kits and e-liquids. Vape products are also available in tobacconists, supermarkets, and convenience stores. Prices may be higher due to the tax.
As of currently, bottles of e-liquid aren't going to be as cheap as they are here in the UK due to the tax per ml, and we would always recommend to take enough supplies with you for the duration of your trip, but it's also good to know that you can still get your essentials if you find yourself running low!
