What is a coil and when do I change it?
Whether you realise it or not, every vaping device hosts a coil inside it. The coil is part of the vital internal atomiser which transforms the vaping liquid into vapour.

Whether you realise it or not, every vaping device hosts a coil inside it. The coil is part of the vital internal atomiser which transforms the vaping liquid into vapour. The process in a nutshell involves the power from the device battery heating the coil, which is made of tightly wound conductive metal. The metal of the coil is wrapped around a wicking material which is saturated in the e-liquid. When the coil heats up the wicking material the e-liquid is atomised and can then be drawn up through the mouthpiece.

What newcomers to vaping often don’t realise is that coils have a lifespan. As they are used they become less efficient and eventually have to be changed. Our EDGE GO device is designed with this issue in mind as each individual pod containing vaping liquid also contains its own fresh coil which is designed to last for the duration of the pod use. When you’re done with the pod, simply snap in a new one and you’ll automatically be changing your coil. Simple.

For free-pour devices where liquid is poured directly into the tank of a device such as the EDGE PRO, the coil must be changed in order to optimise the performance of the vape. EDGE PRO coils are designed to make changing a coil as simple and mess-free as possible. The patented rapid replace coil system is a design which houses the coil within an enclosed housing unit which makes it easy to switch over and also includes a mouth-piece on top, meaning that with every coil change you also get a new mouthpiece for best hygiene.

So how frequently should you change your coil? This depends on the frequency of your vape usage. On average vape users report changing their coils every few weeks, however for heavy use the coil may need changing sooner. The best way to know when your coil needs changing is to look out for the signs that it isn’t performing at its best any more. One thing to look out for is if the vapour feels more strenuous to inhale compared to how it originally did. The e-liquid flavour no longer tasting the way it used to, especially if there is an acrid or burning taste, is a clear sign that the coil has started to burn out.
